It’s a repeat of last month, but each carrier had slight downturns in operational performance in October. In APAC, ANA edged out JAL in this epic battle for operational performance in APAC. This month they were 74.08% on time, but at least they’re on the board. The New York-carrier has lagged in operational performance in 2021 but October was improved. JetBlue had a better performing month than in the past. In North America, Spirit Airlines appears to have mastered consistency this fall - with a similar performance in October compared to September but now 4th in the table, moving up from 6th. Europe was a well-oiled machine in October. Last month’s top performer, Norwegian, dropped from 1st to 7th despite a strong performance that would be the envy of many airlines of the world. The region itself was tops in the world, with many carriers being above 90%. In Europe, Vueling, Aeroflot and Austrian were the top performers, with Vueling at 93.31. Indeed, even with the end-of-month cancellations faced by the airline, American maintained 82.91% of its flights on time. United, Qatar, Air France and American were neck and neck in the low 80s. On the network front, Aeroflot outperformed both LATAM and Delta Airlines - while the latter still managed an excellent 88.45% on some 131,380 flights flown in the month. Nevertheless, there are always winners in every climate in On-Time Performance. Neither will show up as top performer in the October On-Time Performance report, but these cases showed just how quickly weather and now staffing shortages can ripple through airlines just as they are seeking to maximize fall revenue within exceedingly slim operational margins. Each airline cancelled thousands of flights and made the nightly news because of it. It was a tough month for several airlines - particularly for Southwest Airlines and American Airlines in the U.S. ![]() October 2021 Rough October skies for some U.S. Download The Annual On-Time Performance Review 2021.
